Food matters

Yesterday I posted about how I think parents can get all wickity-whacked about the dinner table. Today, however, I wonder if parents, although want their kids to clean or not clean their plates, make poor food choices for their kiddos. I know I can.

As much as I don’t want food and eating it to be that big of a deal, I still want them to eat good -for-you-food. That being said, by 2 year old had Fruit Loops and chips for breakfast. super.

Still, we do make fairly good food choices around here. Snacks can and are more than just chips. Carrots are a good choice as well as a sliced up apple with some nice cold ice water. If they want to toss in a Crystal Light packet in that water, super!

If you happen to be a follower of Christ, you then are called the Temple of God, therefore, we have an obligation, nay, responsibility to treat this temple with respect, honor and care. That includes what we feed it. As parents, we are the ones who train our kids in that area.

We know that we train them in character, love, passions, goals, and a host of other things. It should be no different in training them in the area of care of their physical body. As in everything, this is done prayerfully and with a clear understanding of Biblical teaching (which I happen to have taught on this before at www.stilettoarmy1.blogspot.com “the Temple”). :)

Now, mind you, this does not mean that we become health-nuts and exercise freaks. There is balance. And if you, the parent, struggle here, let’s find out why and get on with living. Food/exercise and trying to have some sort of “perfect” body is simply going to lock you in to bondage. We talking about a conscience awareness of caring for the gift of the body so that we can do all we’re called to do with health and vitality. It’s not about being skinny, it’s about being free!

So, food choices with kids? Again, lighten up if you need to. Come down a little harder if you need to, but please, above all things, let the peace of Christ rule, the love of God guide, and maintain and eternal vision over your family. These other things will fuel the passion, not become it!
