Oh To Have it Etsy, er Easy

Sometimes I wish I were more creative and could open my own Etsy store or something. I’ve always wanted to run my own business, but have never wanted to run it. I like the idea of doing something fun that will make me money without having to work, but I hear it just doesn’t work that way.

For instance, my friend Kim makes aprons. I can’t make an apron to save my life–well, maybe to save my life if it came to it, but even then I couldn’t promise that it would look good on the one threatening my life for said apron, and who in the world would threaten someone’s life and tell them if they could only make an apron their life would be spared. “But I can’t sew!” I’d scream. “Well, you better learn how quick because your life depends on it! Now sew!” my captor would say.

Back to Kim. If it came to her life hanging in the balance and she needed to whip out a cutey patootie apron for someone, she could, and she’d charge for it.

And what about Mandy at Messy Canvas? Y’all all know I can draw a mean stick figure, but would they actually sell? Go look at her cute stuff! I’ve seen some cute stuff out there for sale, but the trick is, um, consistency. Ah, that’s where I might find some trouble.

Also, I understand that you have to keep making what you’ve created; keep buying stuff to make your stuff and hoping that people buy your stuff. In theory, it sounds fun, but in reality I don’t have the time, and to be honest I’m just too lazy to keep up with something like that. I’m one of those people that wishes that my great idea would take off and make me money without much effort on my part, but I’m sure there are those “millionaire’s next door” (I’ve yet to meet one in my neighborhood) that would say hard work is one of the keys. I don’t like that key. I want the easy key, but alas, Wal-Mart doesn’t make one of those.

Now that I’ve talked myself right out of an Etsy store or an online business, I have to go get ready for my garage sale. It’s this Saturday, and God’s favor is shining down on me because the neighborhood next door is having their garage sale. They have a big, beautiful sign for it out front down the street a bit. See, I didn’t even need to advertise and people will be come by the droves. That’s the way to run a business….or a garage sale. whatever.
