Money Saving Tips (uuuh, what blog are we on?)

>> 10/26/09

Okay, the title of this blog post should make you giggle only because if you know anything about me, you might know that "money saving tips" NEVER shows up on this blog. For that stuff, you can go to Christi's web site. Suriusly.

I mean, I can cut a coupon with the best of them, use a few, and then find the rest wadded up in the bottom of my purse...expired. I also can make a mean menu for about a week at a time with about 7 weeks in between. Still, I am skilled enough (and smart enough) to always use a list when going to the grocery store, and to make sure my tum-tum is full-full so I won't by the Ho-Ho's. (It almost never works.)

Coupons = saving money
Cheap Wal-Mart and Target brand = saving money
CVS card = saving money
Making a list = saving money
Using the cheapest conditioner and mousse = saving money, and wouldn't you know, gave me some of the best hair I've had in months!

That's right folks, I recently switched from the oh-so expensive brand of Tresemme, and went for the cheap-o-deep-o brand of Suave only to find my hair lighter, curlier, and not bogged down with mouse and what-not (hat tip to Uncle Rico every time I use that word.)

I'm telling you. Don't buy into (some) of the lies that more expensive is better! (Unless we're talking about a real Coach bag or a lame fake one. I'll take you to task.) (Oh, and you can't count fake Oreo's either. There is no substitute for a real Oreo. Amen and Amen)

Now, where was I? Oh yes, cheap conditioner.

You see, I don't shampoo my naturally curly hair. I do scrub it under hot water and just use conditioner. Then I use mousse, blow it dry, and squirt some hairspray, and I'm done. So, I've been using the large bottles of Tresemme, and decided I was spending that near $5 anymore! No sirree! I was jumping down to the $2.69 bottle of Suave conditioner and the $3.19 in mousse! (Dave Ramsey would be so proud.) I was scared, but, holy smokes! who knew that hair could look better with a cheaper product!?

Sneaky hair-do people.

Yeah, yeah, I'm sure I'm loading my hair down with all sorts of additives and wax and what-not, but who cares! It's my hair and I'm going to treat it cheap if I want.

Money saving tip = GO CHEAP! (except on Coach and Oreos)

This made me laugh! It's almost the exact opposite of a post I did a few days ago: A Convoluted Lesson in Frugality! And we use Suave at our house, too.

You are cracking me up! What I have found is to switch it up. I float between Tresemme and Aussie, but also have an expensive bottle of stuff I use once a week. It last forever that way and the other two just wash each other out each time I switch. So, if you start feeling bogged down again, just switch to another cheap one and then back again.

I'm a cheapy and I use off brand on just about everything. I'm also a curly girl, but my dry scalp won't allow me to ditch Head & Shoulders, so I still 'poo my hair...However, I also use expensive conditioner...Well expensive compared to Suave...

One area I absolutely will not skimp on is tennis shoes. I'm a nurse and I baby my feet. One day my husband came home and my mom happened to be there. He saw my new Merrell shoes on the floor. "Wow! Your mom got Merrell shoes. I've always wanted to buy those, but couldn't afford them." Imagine his surprise when he realized they were mine because I could afford them no problem!

just a little green tip for you, since I also know how green you are... some suave products are now boasting biodegradable ingredients. We won't buy any petrochemical-based products at our house anymore (except for Ryan's stuff) but I was pleasantly surprised the shampoo+conditioner Suave I recently bought him was also better for the enviro. :) Thought you'd like to hear that.

My hair wizard (that term is shamelessly stolen from BooMama) told me long ago that lots of the more expensive grocery store brands are really not great for your hair. She said you're much better off with Suave, because at least it's not trying to do something to your hair. In general, the additives and wax and what-not you talk about is in the more expensive stuff, not the Suave.

So unless you're going to get a salon recommendation for a true salon conditioner, Suave is just fine.
